About Us

Meet The Wilderness is an equal opportunity service provider providing Adventure-based/Life skills programs that introduce youth and adults to the spectacular world of the Colorado backcountry and the beautiful world of themselves and others around them. We offer a balance of physical, mental, and spiritual activities to help people in the life process of promoting personal growth.

Based in Eagle County, Meet The Wilderness was started in 1974 with high school youth from low income areas of Chicago. Over years, the program has expanded and we now work with youth and adults from many areas: locally and across the nation.

Through all of our programs we remain committed to our mission: "Meet The Wilderness teaches life skills by providing adventure education to youth groups. Our programs instill trust, self discipline self esteem, teamwork, communication skills, leadership skills and confidence in their abilities to meet unique life challenges and gain an appreciation of the natural environment." Meet The Wilderness operates under a U.S.F.S. permit in the White River National Forest. Meet The Wilderness is an equal opportunity service provider.

"You know it's hard describing in words the feeling you get when you think about some of the accomplishments we've made from the trips to Colorado. It's truly unbelievable. There is such a sense of inner peace with ones self when you're all alone with the elements, an apportunity that I feel most inner city youths don't get. My mother was and still is so happy that people cared enough to make a difference in my life. Many values that have been instilled in me have come from the challenges of Meet The Wilderness retreats in Colorado."
