Welcome to Meet The Wilderness
Meet the Wilderness was founded in 1974 providing a wide variety of programs and wilderness experiences that challenge and educate youth. As a Not for Profit 501 (c) 3, our mission teaches life skills, teamwork and leadership by providing adventure education programs to youth.
On Sept 20, 2008, Meet the Wilderness and SOS Outreach announced their plans to merge Meet the Wilderness' outdoor adventure education programs under the SOS umbrella.
Arn Menconi, Executive Director of SOS, was appointed Executive Director of Meet the Wilderness by the Board of MTW on Oct 7, 2008. "By combining the resources of both organizations, we'll be able to reduce overhead and ensure that a higher percentage of donor dollars are directly going to programs for kids," said Mike Beltracchi, Board Chairman of Meet the Wilderness.
Since our founding, we have expanded and now offer the following programs:
- Wilderness backpacking/Peak ascent trips
- Rock climbing programs
- Teams courses
- Elementary outdoor education
Each MTW program integrates our core value of teaching life skills, teamwork and leadership. In addition, our programs instill trust, self discipline, self esteem and increased communication. We help youth gain an appreciation of themselves and the natural environment.
